I guess it's pretty much confined to the West. But this isn't the first time something like this has happened. There have been such scandals before, with people selling their kidneys etc. for money. I think that this is something similar, except that many of those who sold their kidneys, died later because in addition to kidneys, other essential organs were removed as well.
