How is this an intelligent or unexpected thought, helping a girl will save the world? It feels smarmy and a bit unaware. A little too "teach a man to fish..."

Not that I think the insight that 3rd World women are better investments versus men (so to speak) is not mineable. I just don't think the execution is much more than an animated, though nicely written, creative brief.

If I didn't read the PDF that was on your website, I would have probably dismissed the video as a feminist propaganda. I am still skeptical, but I think that the PDF did a much better job than the video.

Thank you Dan,

you could say that the Girl Effect happened in Finland quite early and has had positive results.

I found the Girl Effect video on Seth Godin's Triiibes site, posted by a member. Extraordinarily and brilliantly sticky and motivating. I ended up here because I wanted to do a bit of research before promoting the campaign on my own website. I agree absolutely about the clunky last line which felt a bit out of key with the rest. But a brilliant piece of work and I am now an advocate. Of course it's not a new idea... many small and large charities around the world have been pursuing this argument for a long time... but this is the first time the case has been made so compellingly.

That's really interesting, Samuli -- I like the repeated surprise of Finland triumphing on different metrics. Nice work!

Brandon, I agree with you -- I got the same feeling of "decision paralysis." I sent a "suggestion box" note to the GlobalGiving folks.

WOW the video is great and sticky.

I recently made a <a href="http://managerstoolbox.blogspot.com/2008/07/how-do-we-educate-our-children.html" rel="nofollow">presentation</a> related to the same topic - the education of cildren (especially girls).

It would be nice to hear what do you think about it's stickyness.

I watched the video, I was moved. Great message. I went to the Girl Effect website - well done - very vivid, and impactful, yet simple to navigate.

I was curious how I could help. I followed the link, and ended up at the Global Giving website. Then, I was quickly overwhelmed by the myriad of options. Choosing between chickens, business loans, legal defense, and a whole host of other giving options - I left.

It wasn't until a few minutes later that the section in Made to Stick (which I just finished) came back. The addition of more options seemed to make it HARDER for a person to make a decision.

So that is a comment on my experience, and maybe a suggestion to The Girl Effect (which really is a great cause who's message is well delivered!)

I've watched this video 6 or 7 times and I get chills every time. Thank you for deconstructing it in terms of stickiness!
